We had an all-around great trip up Red Mountain today. Plenty of soft snow made for nice turns, especially between 4500' and the summit (5890'). This was my first time up Red, and it was steeper than I had imagined. We dug a pit at around 5200' with no signs of instability. Visibility due to fog made skiing off the summit a bit spicy. There was very little wind. Light snow was falling periodically and gradually increasing later in the day. Getting out of Commonwealth Basin back to the car was more of an ordeal than we had hoped for. It started raining once we dropped below around 3500'. Thanks to ErikT for the beta!
