We found 16" soft powder on north facing slopes 5600-4000', light winds and light cloud layer.  East slopes had a light (wind?) crust, southwest slopes had soft snow, but only 8" on a firm base.  All the 15 other folks we encountered seemed to be having fun, even the ones who do most of their skiing at Rainier!

Susan, Eddie, and I rambled all over near the Pass, covering all aspects except E, on an exploratory tour for WAC outings next week. Spent most of our time between 4.2 and 5.4k. Best snow on open slopes, but quite good in the trees above 4k. Let conditions and stoke guide the ramble; found ourselves at the car 8-9 hours after we left.

Snow mostly inspired confidence - better-than-average bond to the crust nigh everywhere. Rightside up snow, unless topped with 1-3" very soft windslab. Skied slopes SE-SW to 40 degrees with very friendly snow. Took advantage of the conditions, and the party's easy-going attitude, to find the right entrance to a SW slope I've looked at for years. Not confident enough to center-punch a blind rollover, we leapfrogged down an edge in fine conditions.

Very fun day. Thanks to both Susan and Eddie for a great time.

Sorry to post these so late.  Just wanted to thank you again for the excellent skin trail out and it was a mighty pleasure to meet Silas Wild in the FLESH!

Here's a couple of photos I took of your group.
