Judging by the amount of previous tracks in the area it seems lucky we had the place to ourselves on this quite morning of fog and flurries. First time in the Commonwealth for me, and certainly not my last.
We transitioned near the the top of the avi slope in old growth trees along the SW ridge. First 1000 feet were shockingly good, with thin cream on a supportive crust. Back in the forest at the bottom of the basin, the crust failed and it was a trappy, hooky horrorshow for a few hundred vert. Below that it was refrozen much stronger (perhaps below the weekend fog?) and was just icy. Not exactly fun, but much more skiable and safer.
The little kid in me thoroughly enjoyed the "bobsled" track back out!
