The standard approach:
1.5 miles up Smithbrook Road start skinning up the clearcut, then forest, to Rainy Pass.
Strip the skins for a fast ski down the road to the crossing of the main Rainy Creek drainage.
Start climbing the regenerating clearcut edge until forest and attain the east ridge of Jove.
Follow ridge westward to summit.

Then we skied the nice NE Bowl for 600 vertical in fantastic mid boot recycled powder!  Easy skinning brought us back to the summit for the long corn run on the 1800' vertical south slope.

We were a bit late so the ski penetration was 3 or 4 inches but still much fun!  The bottom was a bit chunky from a decent size avalanche that ran from 5600', with a 12" to 18" by 500 feet across crown, to the near bottom bench.  This must have happened not long after the last snowfall as sun had really melted and rounded the edge of the crown.  But being there then would have been bad.
Traversing up along the base of the east ridge of Union Peak brought us back to Rainy Pass for the fast luge run in the snowshoe track to the car!

Great pics, thanks for posting. Was unfortunately in (a) fog all day.

Crown was there on the 14th. I'm guessing it was from the rain event on the 7th.

Was that you that skied into the NE Bowl?  Thanks for the skin track if you did the approach I described.  It obviously wasn't the first time you have skied in there!  That's pretty much what we assumed on the slide event.  Some good firm corn on the bed surface yesterday when the newer snow was mushing out.

Nope, I was across the valley. I watched two people and a dog put in the track and then drop the South slope on the 13th or 14th.

Nice one!  Perfect place to go for possibly the last inversion day.
