Myself and Jay (TAY: Jay Mon) had a bit of fun in the side country around Stevens Pass today. From the Outer-limits Road on the backside of the ski area, we skinned up towards Christmas Bowl. Getting some stellar turns in 8-12" of light powder. While there was a pronounced rain crust from earlier in the week, the layers underneath felt progressively denser.
Next, we cruised up to the top of the Fleur de Lis. Conditions are less than desirable in the Fleur de Lis, you might bring crampons and ice tools. The south facing aspects today were becoming quite affected by the sun.
Everywhere else on North aspects is superb.

Go get it!

Backcountry powder porn for you to look at:

Looks awesome! Sweet pictures. How far from the car is the Fleur? I haven't skied around there and am hoping to get out there next week.

How far from the car is the Fleur?

about ninety miles.  Which is surprising, because according to JW and a few other skiers I know the Fleur is not--as one may easily think--in Africa, but is actually in North America.  I'd draw a map, but I suck as an artist.

Nice guys! Jay you're sure getting a good Stevens tour the last few days!

i feel like lowell skoog right now.

Eh?

Thanks for the conditions report, Bryan.

Nice job on the pics Bryan and thanks for posting the write-up.
