Taggart is 6 years old, and although he has hiked to the top of our property several times, this would be the first time in the snow. We go about 500' up a south facing slope and then about 800' down the north side. There is a dirt road that contours up and around the hill back to our house. Our objective is "Firebreak", the new ski run that was cut as a first defense against approaching fire while we continue a thinning project.
This was Taggart's idea. Thanks to teleskichika's http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i58/mikerolfs/Firebreak%20with%20Tag/CIMG7042_zpsb3dbf11a.jpg" />
At one point, Tag says "my hands are cold, they feel like they have splinters in them"
I put my gloves on him while I fish his second pair out of the pack. He asks me "Dad, how come your gloves aren't cold and wet?"
"Our house is down there"

We have a motion activated trail camera near the top. Here's Tag in the game cam:
He waggled his rear at the camera too. He thought that was SO funny.
Here is the skiing.

We put on headlamps at the bottom and I apply skins to my skis. Tag kept his skis on and I towed him back around the hill to the house. He was so proud of himself! Momma was on the deck waving as we came into view of home. It was just perfect.

Priceless! Just Priceless to have a ski run in your back yard and to have a day like that .
Great TR Mike -- that's the best backyard a kid could ask for...
Nice!
Next time it's "in" Elisa and I would like to get a piece of that!
Man, I seem to be giving you way too many atta boy's. Nice trip report, way to get a touring partner for life!
Nice Mike!
It was great meeting you and jtack on the hill today.
I hope your "home run" went well.

So sweet, what a happy looking kid!
As the father of a 2.5 year-old boy, I am inspired by your report.

What a great way to start your kid skiing the backcountry. My son came alone on a far amount of ski days through his Jr. High and High school years. Now he lives in LA and loves to surf with his wife
