December 22, 2012 - ONP - Sunrise Ridge
« on: 12/24/12, 02:35 PM »

After getting shut down on our two previous attempts to get to the goods, the third try proved to be a charm.  Cheesy

Telemack and Danpeck joined Jan, Jeff and me for the day. With a lengthy line of cars behind us at the gate, we elected to avoid the more popular trailheads, instead, we bushwacked our way up a roadside slope to a basin which  in the past has rewarded us with solitude and enjoyable skiing. Today turned out to be another one of those days.

Some brief sun breaks during our initial climb teased us along. By the time we finished our first descent and started climbing again, the winds began increasing and light snow started falling. Both wind and snow increased as the day progressed. Neither of these dampened our enjoyment of the seemingly bottomless snow we skied on each run.

Just proves that good things are worth waiting for  Wink

Here's a few pictures:

   2. Mack on bended knee
   3. Gary doing his best to represent the AT contingent in the group.

Way to get after it! What great powder skiing!

Saturday it howled all day and we punched through past steep and icy with very poor visibility.

Sunday, the north side of Klahanne offered us the best snow of the season and well worth the wait after the winds died down! Deep!

I had the Hill all to myself today. It was wind free and crystal clear for the entire day!

Gary, Jan, Jeff and Mack... thanks for the excellent time.  What an excellent trip... even the trail breaking was fun Smiley

I'll post some pictures soon once I emerge from the holiday clean up  Grin

Deep Deep Deep
The wind was strong enough to impact some of the slopes above the road so we were planing on the surface on the last run back to the car.  Other than that it was thigh-deep and face shots every turn.
We got some Hood Canal-effect snow yesterday, so I got to X-C out my back door on a White Christmas.  Happy Holidays  Smiley
