Our original plan was to tour to Round Top on the south side of Carson Pass. I wanted to ski East Bowl and "observe" Moon Crescent Chute off Round Top. Unfortunately a low pressure system arrived overnight and winds were gusting over 35 mph from the SW on Carson Pass. We decided to tour on a wind protected peak and traveled back to Luther Pass at 7740 feet. We parked along Grass Lake and climbed the old growth forest to the summit of Waterhouse Peak at about 9500 feet. The snowpack on the NE slopes was soft. An easy and fun descent surfing between old growth trees.
After a month of skiing in the Tahoe area, we've decided to travel south along 395 to tour the High Sierra. After a few corn runs at Kirkwood in the morning, we'll head to Bridgeport and soak at Travertine Hot Springs before starting our second month of skiing/touring in CA. Zap
