Susan and I took a quick venture up toward Kendall Knob/Lakes. Snow was good, improving with elevation. No notable instability at/below Kendall Knob. Pole penetration to the handle in spots, but there's a denser layer (1-4F) about 10" down. Coverage in the open/thin forest below the Knob was sufficient for fun, if brief, turns.
We had a little extra time, so we put in a Hyak lap. Skied well, especially the upper two thirds. 6-10" of consolidating goose down atop the denser layer. Bottom third found a punchy crust below the pow. Fun. Coverage at Hyak is sufficient for skinning (thanks to whoever put the 2x4 across the creek; it's just enough bridge), but insufficient for any sort of ski area operation.
