Once the first snow dips below 3500', and there's at least 3" on the road, Windy has for the last five years been my favorite go-to for an early season kick-and-glide (and the chance to transition from climbing mind-set/packing to a winter travel shakedown).

An attempt Saturday AM saw not much more than a dusting at Windy proper, so the sensual glide of ski on snow was short; some may have even called it contrived.

Today did not disapoint though, parking the car along Cold Creek Rd at approx 3500' in a thick and generous 3".  The skinny ski was the perfect tool for mountain travel, helping say hello to the first few hundred yards of Mt Cath. trail, the PCT and a ski on the FS roads to the top of Windy Acres.

Coverage on the FS roads was excellent at the top of the Windy cut.  The glide back down to Windy Pass proper was delightful, and with the correct amount of talent and finesse a few slow turns were noodled.

Whether or not it sticks for now is ok with me.  The last two Thursdays of early AM mountain meditation was on dry rock at X38, what a treat that one week later snow is on the menu for breakfast to celebrate 60 months on snow.

Tomorrow we'll go see what Rainier has to say.
