I don't buy it, but imagine if Washington Pass did get 5' of pow and they opened the road one day later.

Following from www.wsdot.wa.gov

"The story is nearly identical farther north on the North Cascades Highway (State Route 20). Snow slide closed the highway just after noon on Saturday, March 26 and it hasn't reopened yet.

"We're not optimistic about a weekend opening," said Jeff Adamson, WSDOT Communications Manager in Wenatchee. The forecast calls for another 60 inches before Friday. Today, crews will go to the area and assess the slide danger. They expect to see evidence of snow slides at Liberty Bell and Cutthroat. However, they are confident that even if the area gets five feet of snow this weekend, it will only take a day or so to clear."

Since March 16 when these weather systems moved in, there has been about about 5.6 inches of measureable precip. I am calculating about 9 inches of snow per inch...maybe that's a little high. But if that was true, there has been over 4 feet of powder since March 16. All of this has been recorded at the Hart's Pass snotel which would more accurately tell what is happening at Washington Pass. The Hart's Pass snotel is at 6500 feet. And of course the highest temp recorded at Hart's Pass since March 16 has been 32 degrees. Not a single freeze/thaw cycle for over two weeks. Here's the data:

www3.wcc.nrcs.usda.gov/nwcc/sntl-data000...=wa&site=515&days=30
