Since I use TAY for the weather links everyday, I feel obligated to post this. Today was "The Day". Looking at the telemetry it snowed all night at MR. 5" reported, O.K., I found wind deposited snow on protected slopes 50cm deep and more. The new snow from the past week and a half was nicely consolidated w/ a nice styrofoam crust, where exposed, well bonded to the low density snow underneath. This base is probably anywhere form 20cm to 40cm, getting deeper near the top. The new snow that has fallen in the last 2-3 days is fairly light, w/ low moisture content. I skinned up under chair 4 to the flats above Caslte. Off my skis the snow was over my knee where I stopped. Ski down was great with only a short section of wind scoured crust. Next I skied to the top of chair 3 and a little above. Snow up there appears pretty bomber with only small sloughs on very steep slopes below the microwave towers. New snow did not seem slabby at all and a hasty pit revealed no suspect layers. Ski down was the best this year, nice bouncy powder turns on my new Dynastar Little Big Fats(nice ski). Only minimal crust encountered at midway in the open areas, finished down Mimi w/ dust on crust. Trip time from home 3.5 hrs. I'll be there again this weekend, weather and conditions permitting. Talked to operations manager on my way out, they will not be reopening he said.
Hi Aaron.
It was a March dump back around the turn of the century that hooked us on Mission. I'm glad someone is enjoying the snow over there.
My Jeep has begun to clunk. I just took it in to the shop this am. Hopefully it is driveable by Friday. If so we may see you on the slopes.
Eric.
Update: The shop could not reproduce the clunk but will install new front u-joints and axle seals for $450. The good thing is it will be ready by tonight. 8)
