First time touring Sunrise.  Sourdough chutes in excellent shape.  After a couple laps there, we hiked the ridge over to Dege peak (bowl?) and skied down to the hairpin where I hitchhiked back to my car.  Great coverage everywhere and nice, firm, edgeable snow all the way to 3:00 pm.  Even though it was ridiculously hot.

Yep he's right Julie...don't do it. Just bought my 4th pair of DPS skis( a pair of  Pure Yvettes for my wife).... it becomes an obsession. :'(

where exactly are the sourdough chutes? I went up yesterday and climbed uphill from the parking lot to the ridge. On the other side were some short chutes that were much shorter than I imagined. We ended up climbing the burroughs mountains in search of these mythical chutes (lost our map) and ended up dropping into glacier basin from there. (that was a fun adventure and a good ski)

Go N. from the Sunrise parking lot; that's Sourdough ridge and the Northfacing chutes go down from there. The longer ones are E along the ridge; then there's Fear Factor too. They're not huDgely long, but jeez, it's July 10 and they're fun. Go along the Sourdough Ridge E and scoot up Dege for a great ski.

Bruce said it better than I ever could!  They are short, but the snow holds up in this hot weather and you can do multiple runs.  The snow wasn't grabby at all.  After you are done there, again like Bruce said, head over to Dege.

aha, I had seen pictures of dedge and thought that it was what would be right over the ridge, but because we drove up in the dark and didn't have a map, we went west instead of east to find it.

It's a bit of a ridgeline walk from Sourdough, but all those north facing chutes stay so nice that it's worth it.
