Forecasted rain on Saturday was not enough to keep Greg and I away from the north side of Hood. Had a beautiful day on the Elliot Glacier. Got a late start and left the Tilly Jane snopark TH around 10:30 am.
Road is still gated at Tilly Jane Snopark until further notice. Forest Service website stated that there are numerous broken trees and debris that need to be cleared. Tilly Jane trail was snow free until just past the A-frame shelter. Another mile or so before skis and skins.
After reaching the stone shelter at 6500 ft we crossed over the moraine and dropped onto the Elliot glacier. Toured up to about 8000 ft right below snow dome. Enjoyed turns down the glacier for about 1300 vert. Had rain, sun, slush, and big grins all day.
