Those people are obviously members of an entirely different subspecies from mine. They're cramming a very reasonable full-day tour (5000+ vertical) into about an hour and a half!

Just looked at the results of the "Pierra Menta" which is one of the major backcountry races in Europe. Check this out: this years edition was a "short" version since they had a big party for their 20th anniversary, so they "only" had 27000 feet elevation gain over 4 days. The first team completed that in 9 hours and 15 min!

Crazy.

www.pierramenta.com/index.htm

In case you can't view the video, AT Apostle has put together a page containing sequences of stills showing skin removal:
www.pawprince.com/skin_strip/skin_strip.html

Many of the top WC guys also do the Pierra Menta; the two top guys at the Powder Keg were each members of the two top teams at the 2005 PM. Great photos of the event here:

www.marcotoniolo.com/archiv/index.php?album=Pierra_Menta

Thanks for the Pierra Menta photo link, Greg. I'm suprised there are not more F1s in those photos, as so many of the WCers had them.

Any idea where I can buy a suit like this?

Very cool to see some pro-rando racing in action.

I especially liked towards the end of the video.
Having done the Alpental Life-Link Rally in 2003 and 2004, I think the descending part was probably some of the "worst-form" skiing I have ever done (rubber legs, pumping chest, steep bonded snow with lightweight straight skis).
It's nice to see those guys having to scrape their way down some nice fat powder!

Not sure, Jeff, but did you notice that Columbia sponsors the Swiss team? Maybe they make the suits in Portland!
Oh, those descending aren't the elites. The elites probably straight-lined that chute.
