Aaron Mainer and I skied a new variation off of Liberty Ridge on May 15, 2012. We skied a couloir from Liberty Ridge into the bottom of Thermogenesis.

Anyone heard of a previous descent? I checked with Lowell Skoog and he hadn't heard of one.

Detailed trip report with video here.

Wow what a trip!!Spectacular!!

Exceptional piece of work! Thanks for sharing and great photo's too.

I'm impressed.

Lot of "you-fall-you-die" terrain in those parts,
as more than one has discovered the hard way.

Congratulations for a nicely executed ski mountaineering expedition.
Also nicely photographed.

Too bad about the long walk out.
That might have taken a bit of the edge off of my trip completion high.

awesome line! way to send!

Pretty good first post right there!

Nice work you guys, not bad for some old PRO"S. You guys have always rocked it big. WOW!!!!!!!!

I've heard for a long time about parties wanting to ski Thermogenesis. Now that you've skied the adjacent line, I wonder if people will continue to target Thermo. It seems like you've skied the more attractive line, but the long-time goal of skiing Thermogenesis may not die so easily.

Congrats on a safe and successful trip.

That video is SWEET. Outstanding work.

That was an impressive trip and 1st post...

Nice work guys, looks like a sick line.
Way to improvise with the rock anchors.

Great post thanks for sharing these incredible photos of a great trip. Can't wait for your second post.

Thanks for sharing! I like the folding bike. Nice touch to the trip!

Well played!
Not to mention well documented.
Enjoyed the blog post from end to end, including the video.

Wow!  Nice work guys!  That video clearly illustrates the ubiquitous danger that lurks at every point of such a journey.  Can't wait to hear Amar's physics explanation regarding the strength of that rock anchor...

Thank god for this keyboard since my jaw still won't allow me to speak intelligibly.  Wow.  Congrats on a great first and safe trip!

Boy, that sure puts the bar way up there for #2.  A great trip, great pictures, video, and trip report, thanks.

Congratulations! Thanks for pushing the boundaries.

Cool operation!!! In case my personal limits are somewhat lower, but the blog entry explains what's mountaineering is about...

OT: I'm European (Munich) and wonder if you know this

It's German, but the Austrian guy who did that is so cool.
The movie is rather a documentary that a movie and for sure no fake.
I didn't find it at amazon.com, so it may have no English language track.
Sadly it has DVD region code 2 :-(

The link you posted is to the book the movie is based on (my German's rusty, but "Gebundene Ausgabe" translates to "Hardcover Edition": http://www.dict.cc/?s=Gebundene+Ausgabe)

There is definitely an English version of the movie - I saw it last year at a special screening at the AMC in the Pacific Place shopping center in downtown Seattle. I don't recall if it was actually in English or there were just subtitles - but I remember it was incredible and worth seeing.

Great TR. This finally solves the mystery of the folding bike. We climbed and skied the Emmons during the same timeframe and were pondering where the owner of the bike was.

Watched Aaron pull his Dynafit toes into full lock mode in the video.  No place to lose a ski, eh?

I have go calm down now and let my breathing return to normal.

Holy Hanna.  Incredible job.  I would've been chased off at the sight of that giant seracfall triggered avalanche.

Sorry, yes you are right, I took the wrong link. The correct link to the movie is
http://www.amazon.de/gp/aw/d/B0049EXU1O/ref=aw_d_detail?pd=1&qid=1341089045&sr=8-1
I corrected my original posting too. Amazon writes about the movie that there are only German subtitles, but I would recommend it even without any German language skills.
I found the "making of" part very interesting too.
An other problem could be the DVD region code 2 :-(
