Snow Tire Mounting and Seasonal Storage
« on: 06/18/12, 09:06 AM »

I need to find a shop that will mount tires on my new wheels. That part is easy. Once that is done, I'll switch back and forth between wheels with regular tires and wheels with snow tires. I was hoping to find a shop that will also store my extra set of wheels. I know some dealerships do this, but the Toyota place that is close to me doesn't (I'm putting these on a Rav-4). A Google search turns up lots of tire places that do "seasonal storage", but I couldn't find anything around here. Does anyone know of a shop that does this?

I'll answer my own question: The only place I've found in the area that does this is the Burien Toyota dealership. Other Toyota dealerships (that I called) don't do this, nor do any of the other tire places I called. There may be others, but I didn't find them. I live in the Northgate area, but this service is worth it to me, so I will drive down there every six months or so.

Burien Toyota seems like good people.  I'm looking for a new car now and looked at a couple options there when either a 4runner or Tacoma was on the top of my list.  Don't think I'll end up going for a Toyota ($$$$ for the ones I was interested in) but I did get a good vibe from that dealership.

Yeah,  they were very nice to me. I also liked that area of Burien. Plenty of places to walk around or eat while waiting for the work to be done. There is a great variety of shops and restaurants and the neighborhood a bit west of there had some nice middle class houses. Sure beats sitting in the waiting room.

RossB,

Thanks for the topic. I really don't enjoy the semi-annual tire schlepp and had the same question. Discount Tire mounts the wheels and tires for no charge, but I have to haul the stuff around and store it under my house.

What are the charges for tire/wheel storage and a remount?

To be honest, I forget. I thought it was pretty reasonable, considering that storage is included with it. It's probably best to call them and get a price, anyway, since it may vary based on wheel size.
