Last Monday provided full sun, solitude and great snow on Black Peak in NCP. Conditions are still favorable for skiing from Rainy Pass all the way to SE ridge notch at ~7900', with boot packing above that to ~8800' and snow-covered 3rd class to E summit. Awesome views down recently skied NW face. Yikes!

Lake Ann still frozen and skiable en route to Heather Pass with smooth snow cover above that. We skied the S slope/gully from ~8800' down into Woody Creek then skied out by std Wing-Lewis approach. There was about 3-6" of wet, fresh snow on the summit area (>8k') from last week's storms. Ski cutting on steep upper S slope produced very little slide activity. Buttery turns most of the way to the highway, except for usual rattle-needle crust still frozen in woods below 5k' and recent avy debris SE of Lewis Lake.
