North Cascades NP: Cascade Pass

6/3 tour up to Cascade pass. The Final gate is still locked at mile 21.3 thus requiring a ~ 2 mile hike on pavement to the trailhead and snow. The road is entirely melted out to the very end. One small tree snag is laying accross the road which requires some shuffling around and getting the skis snagged on branches.
Snow was very slushy even on West facing slopes. One easy boot pack is required to make it to cascade pass....It may be possible to skin around it given better snow conditions though it's probably just easy to huff it.
We had intended on going up on to Sahale Arm but the weather that had threatened all day moved in and crushed our hopes. It looks as if there is a nice boot pack up the steap part of the arm.
A number a fairly ugly cracks have opened up on the snow, one of which is difficult to avoid along the route. Be careful on the descent!
