- later season storm forecasted 6", after a month of 'see-saw' wthr. Conditions were marginal in the central Sierra, but Mammoth resort was about as good as it could get for spring conditions. so, who needs to hike when the lift-served turns are perfect. did hike (15 min.) to the top of the Mtn, as the Gondola was under maintenance. that snow was 4" of  2 wk old 'fresh' corn - that looked like it was 'sliced by a knife', from the solar radiation!  It skied airy, & needless to say, epic. I did 2 laps, 2 consecutive days.      Shasta continues to have great conditions. Lassen Park road will open this wk. (for easy access to the upper mtn). Their rpt says there is 8 ft of snowpack to slide on. Hopefully it corns right back up after the current storm. Lassen has a variety of aspects to choose, this time of yr.    * a sidenote  Mt Shasta- 14,000' today: 12 degrees, wind NE 40
