What a difference a few days makes!  As Chris suggested in his report today, we can confirm that the lower 1200' of the Silver Star tour are now challenging, not really fun skiing, at least for us. Warming weather last night and a 2pm ski from 10' below the summit gave us 8" slush skiing all the way to the creek moguls which were nice corn, then discontinuous patches of snow when the route moved to the east side of the creek to descend to the highway.

I can't believe the Silver Star creek approach melted that fast and I'm sure with the recent weather it's even worse now. I've post-holed all the way along that creek before. Anybody skied Silver Star via the "summer/climber's approach" over Burgundy Col instead of the Silver Star creek approach? Do you loose a lot of the good skiing by approaching that way?

Some pics from the day...
