Climbers!!! Help Stop Squamish Gondola! - Petition
« on: 05/25/12, 10:53 AM »

A proposal to install a tourist gondola within (operating above ground level) the Squamish/Shannon Falls Provincial Parks is sailing through the approval process in British Columbia.  A strip of land will be removed from Class A park status for gondola.

The base area would be at the gravel pit located at the base of the Chief and the top area would be located just beyond the provincial parks boundary on Crown Land.  The taking would be the strip of land below the gondola's path.

There has been little public input and this petition asks for a more detailed review: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/squamishchief/[/url]

Thanks,

Todd

Too bad to see this come up again.  Thanks for the link

The thread title reads as if the gondola was stopped.  Could I suggest changing the title to something a little more dire?

The gondola will open up new access to backcountry skiing around Mt. Habrich and Sky Pilot. Given how overused the Paul's Ridge area is this might be a good thing.

Then shouldn't we petition that it be open in the winter?  Cheesy

Interesting. I remember seeing somewhere plans for XC-ski tracks. Not sure where I saw this but I am pretty sure the plan was tourists all year round, snowshoeing and XC skiing (on marked and groomed trails) in winter and spring and mountain biking and hiking in summer and fall.
Was not there plan for a restaurant at the top as well?
