March 25-30, 2012, Duffey Lake, Wendy Thompson Hut

A little late, but better than never as I hope some might say.  David organized a ski trip to Wendy Thompson Hut in Duffey Lake area in BC, Canada.  A group of 10 laidback skiers, 5 Idohons and 5 Cascadians.  Surprisingly only two were heel assisted. The hut holds 16 and a nice size for just 10 of us.  It sits in a broad basin with an easy ski-in from the hw99.  After a few hours of digging around, we secured a fresh water supply 100' away, which made our water chore much easier.

First two days were sunny and the snow consisted of about 8" new on well consolidated base.  Nothing too radical nearby, but plenty of short tree runs around when it gets stormy as it happened in our later stay. We made two longer tours, one toward Cayooshi Mtn in sunshine, another up "Exidoor" run in snow storm. There are many interesting tour options from the hut.  However, runs tends to be shorter and gentler than other parts of the area.

By the last day we got up to 2' new, it was a bit hard to leave knowing skiing would be great.  Oh well, timing is not our control, but it was a fun week with a bunch of great friends.  Jeffey is great!
