Crystal - 03/18
« on: 03/18/12, 05:29 PM »

Very nice day, fairly light early crowd, big sunshine, nice soft packed pow snow in PB/BP’s led to lots of repeats in hamster mode, front side of REX got soft enough to ski – Doors to Sunnyside, Valley bowl very nice packed pow, don’t know anything about any of the groomers today – but they looked nice from a distance, typical 10:30 crowd at the lifts, then pretty mellow the rest of the day, snowing hard when I left at 3:15, heard the soups at noon were Potato and Baja Chicken, checked in at 2:30 and it was Minestrone.  Pay lot made a very poor showing today and it was very big, B/C/D/E lots all looked pretty full – where were all those folks today.  Great fun.

New menu item on the sunny patio today. Steak skewers. Very tasty but a bit overpriced at 7$. Meat had not been boiled like the burgers are which made me positively giddy. If you wanted rice and a slice of grilled pineapple it was 3$ extra.

Naches served up some pretty damne good corned beef last night.

North-facing aspects delivered up perfect packed pow all day. Powder Bowl, Campbell Basin East, Green Valley Bowl, and everything we tried on Northway were excellent. Sunny aspects that got baked last friday were skiable but crunchyish, and we bailed on the Frontside after a couple trials to return to north facers. Great fun today in unexpected sunshine. At 1:45, the fog hit, and we started out. Snowed hard on 410 as we headed home, and looks like when it hit Crystal, 2" in an hour in Green Valley. I'll skip the restaurant report.

The pineapple /rice was not explained on the menu sufficiently. I paid my $7 expecting to get rice and a pineapple slice with my meat skewer. I was shocked to learn I had to pay extra for the rice and pineapple slice. I tried negotiating with the cook for at least a scoop of rice but was adamantly told No dice..no rice.
But I agree that the meat skewer was very very good. I actually wanted another and was bitter that I had to share it with my wife.

On another note the First Track Breakfast is fast turning into a shambles. I've been 4 times this year and every time the breakfast was late on being laid out....it causes the ridiculous sight of people actually standing in line with plates in hand waiting for the food to be laid out....some of them getting angry. Me ...I chilled and refused to line up for my food. I was super chill all day in fact( well I did get a bit huffy when the girl made the person behind me's Latte before mine..)

But really...I'm a great supporter of Crystal Management and think they are doing a great job but the First Tracks Breakfast needs some attention folks. Get the food laid out in time for your guests .
