Hey knowledgeable eastsiders: how is the Mission Ridge sidecountry? I haven't skied Mission since the Pleistocene but I bought their Groupon and I'm skiing there Saturday.
Should I bring my touring skis or is it traverse/bootable? Is it worth it to check out with the current/expected snow conditions? Suggestions on where I should go?
Thanks and looking forward to some much need Vitamin D!
administrative note: I figures since it was a question not a TR it should go in Hot Air but if this should be under Lift-Served please move or let me know.

Most of the MR sidecountry is bootable, and/or side stepable. Most of it is easily viewed from the lift ride up chair 2.

You bet! There are many others on this board who can be much more detailed than I was about specific shots. Specificity seems to be the emphasis as of recently.

It is pretty much all visible from the lifts or even the parking lot as mentioned above. Try to get in line early (8:30ish). Maybe enjoy a couple high speed groomers early (they are underrated). As for what is going to be good this weekend I'm not sure but the east side of the valley sees less sun but maybe more wind.
If the forecast holds true it should all be good. We'll most likely be skiing out windy ridge. If he Liberator is down you might want your touring setup. Depends upon the speed and direction of the wind. Hope you enjoy your trip over.

The snow was ok in the morning, but by 1300 or so it was raining cats and dogs. By the look of the weather forecast we are in for some precipitation, but the temps are trending to the warm side. There is plenty of skiing to be had in the side country (Clara lake basin is a nice tour with possibilities for some turns) but with the possibility of rain, you might want think about bringing a bike just in case.

Hmm. Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll see how much action I can pack into a day. The weekend telemetry for the east side is looking really good actually. Cold front just hit here in Seattle and the temp has dropped dramatically (8-10 degrees). Tomorrow has snow showers w/ snow level of 2500' both sides. Saturday some snow at 1-2.5k snow level, Sunday drier and cold w/ snow level at 0-1K. If enough moisture makes it over the crest I think it could be stellar.

I think your reading of the forecasts is right. It's getting colder in general not warmer. I think the best bets will be the bowl 4 area and the lower shots of windy ridge. Frankly the in area skiing is going to be good as well. Should be busy as well, I think the groupon was quite a success. There were a lot of folks up last weekend on it.

Okay that was pretty fun. Just enough dust on the crust to offer some real float...3" + leftovers I think? We did inbounds until lunch and then grabbed avi gear to hit Windy Ridge.....only to find it had just closed!! Anyone know what was up with that? I saw an avy crown but thought it might be older?
Had fun anyways and got some good adrenal squirts in the Bomber Cliffs. So fun doing real rock chutes and mandatory straightlines!

There was a sizable skier triggered slide just below the microwave towers. There was a large amount of hangfire and unstable snow still on the bowl. After hours on Saturday patrol did some evaluation and control and eliminated the most dangerous hangfire and triggered another slide that stepped down mid slope with a 8' crown. These slides took most of this season's snowpack down. Skiing on Friday, Saturday morning, Sunday and today was sublime in Bowl 4 and points beyond.

Did that skier-triggered event happen around lunchtime on Saturday? We saw a large crowd heading up to the towers in the AM. Any deets on the incident? I tried to find a picture of the avy on my camera but unfortunately my CCD isn't large enough for good digital zoom on the one picture I found facing the right direction

I had been out to Bowl 4 twice already. I heard second hand that a skier cut across the top of Virgil's and triggered the slide and it propagated into shot 6. The control work after released a bigger slide. There is mention of it in the NWAC bulletin of the past couple of days, but about the same info.

My son and I had a distant view of the control work Saturday afternoon. The resulting slide was impressive and it left a very large crown just below the ridge holding the radio tower. There was a previous release a bit farther east, so it seemed like the control work was cleaning out hang-fire.
Big thanks, Aaron, for showing Tom and me a bit of the sidecountry on Saturday.

Agreed. We skied mostly groomers on Sunday before heading back to Seattle. I think the groomers at Mission Ridge are the best in the state. Just outstanding.
