Mt. St Helen's full moon Ski circumnavigation

Here’s a great opportunity to see all of Mt St. Helen's close up and personal in the winter with a 38 mile circumnavigation.  Starting Friday morning at 6:00 am from Portland, we'll head to Helen's highest snowpark. From there, we'll ski at least 13 miles/day for the next 3 days. Back by Monday night, with a extra day planned as a weather day.

Date(s) April 6-9, 2012
DIFFICULTY RATING: Strenuous
TOTAL MILES: 38
ESTIMATED HIKING TIME: 38 hours
ELEVATION GAIN: 7000 ft
APPROXIMATE RETURN TIME: 6:00 pm Monday (possibly Sunday if all conditions good)
WEATHER FORECAST?
DOGS: no
PERMITS: Snow park pass

CARPOOLING: RT mileage is 160 miles; we suggest a mileage donation of 25 cents/mile/vehicle (split by the number of people in the vehicle.) Exact change makes it easier to divide among our drivers. –

Note-this is a carbon neutral outing, $.25/person from outings donation is used to offset carbon released for the trip

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
• Winter backpacking gear
• Skis: Tele or randonee'-best are waxless with skin option
• Food for 4 days, nights
• For experienced winter back country skiers only.
