NWAC Tour Saturday, March 26, 2005 Starts at 10:00 AM NOAA, Sand Point, NE Seattle (see below for details) Meet at the 7-11 on the west side of Sandpoint Way at about the 7500 block Garth Ferber has offered to give us a tour of the Northwest Avalanche Center. In order to get through the NOAA gate, he suggests that we meet outside of NOAA first, then convoy in. Here's what he wrote: "I would still suggest we meet at 10 am at the 7-11 on the west side of Sandpoint Way at about the 7500 block so we can convoy into NOAA. I would guess tour will take an hour or 2. Main things to see are weather models, satellite images, weather station equipment, and discussion. We could go to lunch after but not at NOAA as cafeteria closed on weekends." If you plan to be there, please reply in this thread so that we can see how many people might show up. Thanks Garth!

Haven't heard otherwise from Garth, so I'm planning that the tour is still on. Larry_R has a good suggestion for lunch afterward: "The Tandoor, an Indian restaurant on the Ave, north of 47th. They have a large back room that could accomodate the group (small or large) on short notice. Buffet for lunch time, and the food is excellent. Inexpensive too." If others are interested in this, maybe we should try to reserve the room (or at least give the place some notice)? I will plan on coming to lunch, but would have to get my kids from their "playdate" and bring them to the lunch since they love Indian food and would never forgive me for excluding them.

Wow people actually signed up so its a go. At this time looks like getting warm and wet Saturday so that may boost attendance. Think of some questions; in addition to what I mentioned at the start of the thread we could discuss danger ratings and snow info exchange. Mark Moore is forecaster that day so perhaps he will be Exhibit A.

Sorry to those who can't make it but we are almost always here in the winter so could do another tour sometime. To bad ultragrrl can't make it sounds like the name of a superhero. Tandoor lunch (with kids) sounds good to me. One other thought I had is that it should be windy Saturday and we could make a quick stop at the Soundgarden, a Seattle landmark and must see for those who have not visited it. Note meeting time and location at start of thread. We may want to carpool into NOAA to make it a bit easier at the gate. Thanks to Charles for lending energy to this! See you then!

Russ, if you mean carpooling into NOAA, then the plan is to meet at the 7-11 on the west side of Sandpoint Way at about the 7500 block, then "carpool" from there. See the first post in this thread for all of the info.
