Feb 26-27 Stevens Slack-Country Deep Pow

Skied with Shred and a crew of all-stars Sunday and Monday close to Stevens. Stayed mainly on N. facing slopes in trees and found the best conditions of the year (for me). Deep, cold smoke pow, very stable. One of our crew kicked off a 6" soft slab that went about 10' wide and ran about 20'. That was the only thing that moved the entire two days.
Weather Sunday was a mixture of heavy snow showers in the morning followed by intermittent short sunbreaks later in the day. Monday was bluebird all day with some high clouds filtering things a bit and some valley clouds forming towards the end of the day. Snow on sun exposed aspects stayed soft and skiable until it went into shadow and a crust developed.
At the end of the day Sunday we ran into a couple, Margaret and Baker, who'd flown out here from Vermont to storm chase. They sure picked it right! I saw them again briefly on Monday.

looks good. We hit some great trees and a few pillows on Saturday with sick conditions too. Hero snow for sure.

Likewise Shred! I hope we can get out again soon. Long range forecast for next week is looking promising.
I'm heading out somewhere tomorrow. Not sure where yet. Really want to hit Crystal area but reports from there are kind of scary lately and not much good tree skiing in that area.

I've been looking forward to this post. I thought about starting it myself, but have been sworn to report publicly only that "Stevens pass has no good skiing, the terrain is all rocks and ice, and the locals are a bunch of belligerent a--holes." Which, as I found out, is just not true. :D
