Lost a K2 Dark Side around 5080' on the backside yesterday on the Wayback, if anyone comes across it  .
Talked to ski patrol too late about trying to track it down with a Recco. Anyone have any luck tracking a lost ski with a Recco?

The patrol has a recco finder.
On the main wayback to corona shot or someplace weird?
It'll probably pop up, worse comes to worse if it's visible from the lift we'll find it on on summer maintenance

How can you lose a darkside? Thought those things were so big they float on anything! You might get lucky with the sun tomorrow

I'm still puzzled as to how I lost it. I dug for about an hour and a half and then had my seven buddies come look for it too. Can't wait to find out where it ended up .
I'm glad to hear everyone is optimistic that I'll find it!

It also could have gone for a ride down hill. Almost had the same thing happen on Saturday. Spent about ten minutes digging when I assumed the ski would have been buried, then luckily someone shouted from below that they saw the ski about 150 feet down the mountain.

They can squirt along under the snow for a long way too, if you had some momentum when you lost it. The good news is that, when you do find it, you'll probably just need to polish the edges and lube the bindings and you'll be good! I had a ski lost from early April to early June last year and it's like new again.

^^^Probably farther than you can imagine. I spent two hours digging for a lost ski in-bounds at Central (in the park -- long story, don't ask...) and the ski ended up traveling at 25 to 30 feet under the surface from where I felt it release. How it traveled that for I'll never figure out but it's pretty clear to me that you should always look for a ski far down slope from where you think it came off.

Late yesterday afternoon I saw a single dark colored ski standing upright against the bullwheel of the Mill Valley chair. At the time I thought it odd that there was a single ski there and wondered who it belonged to. Someone must have found it and brought it down to the lift. I would call Stevens to see if any liftie or patrol has noticed it and brought it over from the backside. Tell them it's standing upright right under the plaque honoring James Sullivan.

Well... After:
1. Meeting up with ski patrol to show them where I lost the ski so they might try and find it with Recco
2. Backcountry skiing up once the resort closed and most of the snow melted
3. Hiking up with almost all the snow gone
And not finding the ski. I'm giving up on it! If anyone finds a K2 Dark Side at Stevens Pass I will gladly buy you a bottle of whatever your favorite drink is.

5080' is pretty much level with Gemini saddle but to say it's in the Waybacks still leaves a lot of possibilities. Can you be more specific on about how far skier's left or right of Jupiter chair line? We're doing summer line work on that lift right now and have seen no skis.

Hey Bruce,
It is skier's right of the Jupiter chair. You can see the chair from where I lost it. However, without snow the area where I lost it is pretty steep and rocky.

If you zoom in on the satellite view you can see me going in circles trying to find it .
