A foot of fresh snow greeted us at the trailhead and the new snow depth increased to ~18" by the end of the day. We saw a pretty good bond between the new snow and a thin (1-2 mm) layer of ice below. Another crust was about an inch below that the thin ice layer. The generally right-side-up snow pack made us feel good about skiing moderate slopes in trees on west-southwest aspects.
We also saw some upside-down snow up higher while skinning that fractured (with little-no propagation) on a storm layer about 6"down.
Skiing-wise, the new snow up high was light enough that we generally touched down to the crust below. When heading out to the car, heavy, deep, tip-eating snow around 4k' made for challenging skiing.
