Gary Vogt ,James Hammaker ,Jeff Spann and myself found highly wind affected snow on a variety of aspects. 1"-0" ski penetration with exposed ice patches. I would expect even worse on Muir snowfield. Best snow (thick powder )found was on east aspects and with heavy tree protection. South and west the snow was blown off to expose rain grooves from the last warming period. The best thing I can say is that our tour was blessed with Sun and turns were possible.  Any where in the trees was passible. Better skiing might be found in the passes
We followed your tracks out to the end if Ice Caves trail and decided we had enough of side-hilling on ice; using discretion based on experience, we had a reasonably good ski back.

Ice caves.  Sigh.  My parents neglected me.  I never got to see them.
