Two of us headed up for Source Lake and maybe Chair Peak basin from the upper Alpental lot yesterday around 1PM, I bailed after a mile or less, way to scary hard snow for me, visions of Sonny Bono, Hans Saari, and Doug Coombs. Zack continued on with his two whippets and found high winds approaching the ridge crest at the start of the NE face of Chair climb. Stiff skiing back to the car.

Silas I have to agree with you,I went up Hyack using the cat track and I would describe the ski down the face teeth chattering pow.

"Teeth chattering pow" - that is a new one for me. I'll put that in the same mental bucket as "wet powder" ;).

Some folks on nwhikers reported ascending Arrowhead w/o need of snowshoes sometime earlier this week. They did mention crampons/micrspikes, though...
