12/13/11 Chamonix

The dreaded R word hit the Western Alps mid morning to almost 2000 meters. At this moment the only resort open is Les Grand Monte which is cool but with the upper mountain on wind hold here I was in some of the biggest mountains doing minigolf lines. The early morning sky was clear so I was able to check out Mont Blanc from town. It was definitely Cascade concrete and the crowds quickly faded away leaving the tram empty for the last few hours. Everyone is excited for this weekend as the Aiguille du midi opens for the season with lots of new snow.

Sounds like a great trip.  Hopefully you will be able to return in the spring when the snowpack is fat and the options are limitless.
