Dec. 10 Sierra's La nina rpt.
« on: 12/10/11, 03:17 PM »

 - most of the ski areas down here are opening up, with man-made conditions & limited runs. the low pressures coming down the east side of the range have offered cold temps allowing areas to blow snow around the clock for a few days at a time, and then at night. the Tahoe resort I ski actually reported they have made the most snow this season due to upgraded equipment (they even opened a wk early).
upper ridgelines are basically scoured due to a low that had 165 mph north winds a couple wks ago.

I've been tracking Bryan Allegretto's website for awhile and remember when a storm cycle hits Tahoe things can change dramatically.  Wink

We'll be heading down later this season.

Hi All Mt Sounds harsh. I can't take it any more as a old Cali. boy and Sierra skier now residing in the PNW I have got to inform you that you are using an incorrect word Sierra's. The Spanish word Sierra Nevada, or Sierra is already plural. The correct usage would be, the conditions here in the Sierra are bare due to wind. Hope this helps you blend in  Grin. Zap you know better than that where is your Spanish grammar etiquette  Roll Eyes

yaa, its the Sierra's, Cascade's, Monashees, Buga(boos), Rockies
and I'm out of Nevada, Nayvah(duh)  * anyway the only turns here are on man-made which is best on slopes where you can keep your speed down,   an Eastside Sierra local - yaa *

Hey, all mtn, I don't think I have ever skied on man-made.  Is it normal to have much of that at the areas in your neck of the woods?  Are you suggesting that the stuff skis differently from natural snow - settling, density,  etc, or is it just a depth thing..?

It's very dense and can freeze up hard very quickly.  Better than nothing, but it'd suck to ski on it all season.
