Snow conditions could've been better, but at least there was snow. Tetons hadn't received much new precip the week prior, but that made for a low avy danger forecast the whole time I was there. Lots of funky windslab, suncrust, and ice, but occationally we'd find a good powder stash.
This was my first trip to the Tetons, and my first love is still the Cascades, but there are some fine mountains out there in Wyoming!
Spent a couple days up at Teton Pass, skiing Edelweiss bowl and Glory....so much terrain right off that road, and plenty of options for skiing down and hitching back up to the pass.
Three days spent in the Teton National Park, skied a fine mellow gladed run called '25-short' named for the peak elevation of 9975'....nice views of the bigger peaks.
Overnighter trip into Garnet canyon at the base of middle teton. Camped right below Nez Perce, Cloudveil, South, Middle, and Grand. Lots of fun open slopes to play on up there, both north and south aspects. Was glad we had low avy danger...very tight walled canyon in spots, lots of the trees were 'flagged' from past avies.
Tried to climb Middle Teton via sw couloir, but on our way up one of the other south facing couloirs puked a loose snow avy (strong temperature inversion rolled in that day) and we figured it was best to skip our climb and get back into the shade.
They're having a low snow year too, but there are a lot of chutes on the bigger peaks that the locals said are great corn snow spring descents.
