Most of the xc trails are groomed above Silver Fir. We went off them, through Nordic Pass, Windy Acres, and to the knoll in the basin below the north face. The 6" old powder was still nice on north slopes, somewhat comPacted on east slopes, and wet on south slopes. Coverage in the trees was just good enough for safe skiing. Crispin found the only slide alder trap, scraped my ski bases of wet snow, and broke trail. Excellent senior sitting.
Silas -- did you actually ski over Nordic pass (the low spot in the ridge between "radio mountain" and Mt Catherine) or did you follow the groomed XC trails from "Grand Junction" to WIndy pass. -- I'm wondering whether there is enough coverage in the old growth on the east side of Nordic Pass.
