Nov 18, 2011, - Stevens Pass

We'd been seeing all the snow falling at the local passes/ski areas.  You never know what weather next week will bring,  so even though we only had half a day to play, Pete and I decided to go up and check out conditions.   It was dumping snow most of the way up Hiway 2 from Sultan, but the skies were clearing as we arrived at Stevens at about 8:30am.    Lots of activity going on by employees as they get ready to open tomorrow.

We saw numerous other skiers in the parking lot, but when we got to the base of Chief,  no one had gone up that way.  We broke a traverse up Big Chief and were lucky enough to have some nice young guys catch us part way up and break the rest of the trail. :)     It started to dump snow again as we took our first run down in a blizzard.   The snow was EXCELLENT.   It felt more like mid-winter with just poof on top and never really hitting/feeling anything underneath.   Then we went over and made turns off Double Diamond.    DD has A LOT more scrub and small trees but the snow was deep and we had a blast.    Should be a good opening of the ski area tomorrow.
