After seeing the news reporters at Snoqualmie Pass on the Thursday evening news around 11pm, Jill and I decided to head to the Pass in the morning. We arrived to partly sunny, foggy and brief snow showers during our visit. The slopes in front of the lodge were already getting skied by the 6-10 folks skinning the slopes. The snowcat drivers were grooming the slopes in preparation for Saturdays opening. Yesterday's rain crust was buried by 6-8" of fresh powder. The slopes above the new covered Magic Carpet were untracked when we arrived. There were folks skiing Wildside although there appeared to be a lot of brush on the front face.
Excellent snow quality. This was Jill's first day skinning since her ACL reconstruction in March and she was grinning. A nerve along my leg reminded me of my last spinal surgery but making powder turns before Thanksgiving only 50 minutes from our house overcame the pain. Drove by Central and only saw a few boarders. Hyak had a group working the slopes.

It was closer to 12" over at Alpental for dawn patrol, but both areas skied very well without a hint of the crust, save for the skin up on parts of chair 2 (crust went all the way to the top).
The sun coming out as I was leaving was too much to overcome- I had to stop at West on the way out for 2 more quick runs.

Nice. Well, shows what being impatient gets you, I get up Thursday at 0330 to test my new powder setup in fresh, get a rain crust. Should've waited 'til this morning it seems. Oh well. Interesting to know the crust went all the way to the top of Alpy... does the new stuff seem to have bonded relatively well?
