October 6, 2011, Paradise Glacier

The forecast good weather did not appear to be materializing on our drive to Paradise, but fortunately we decided to start out anyway from fourth crossing. I considered cosying up with a good book by the fire at the Inn but it is already closed for the season  :-(  Up on Mazama Ridge the clouds began parting to reveal blue skies and two skiers breaking trail for us up Lisa's route from a couple weeks ago. The fog followed us up to the bridged crevasse at 8000'. Above that point was calm winds, 4" powder on the smooth base.

Zack pressed ahead to catch the trail breaking kids near the top of Anvil Rock since the snow cover looked nice and smooth. We all skied down to the crevasse and finding fog, we decided to repeat the softest 800' (http://vimeo.com/30172645) above it before exiting through the murk (http://vimeo.com/30172853) back to the car. Congrats to Zack and Todd on completing their first twelve months of TAY.

2010/2011 Goals and results.....

-Ski 100+ days.... No problem there.
-Ski from the top of Rainier....Turned around at 13,000' and some change above the Furher Finger due to some unpleasant winds.  Arrgh!
-My first TAY.... Nailed that on a "powder" day.  Go October!

2011/2012 Goals

-Figure out how to post picts on TAY.
-Ski the top 1000' or so of Rainier.

Thanks to all those who I had the pleasure to adventure with last year, and bring on the new year!

Great trip.

How lucky we were to nail that window way up there in the sun...and in early October!

Here's a good shot of Silas at the fog level around 8K feet in the Pow.
