Was Arc'Teryx ever in dirtbag land? I would never buy their stuff just based on principle (overpriced)...I'm not their target market anyway. Although I did buy my first Patagucci jacket last year...on sale!

Don't know what a "TLT 5 P" boot is...but from the context it sounds expensive.
Outerwear is kind of interchangeable, althought breathable fabric does make a big comfort difference to me. You're talking to a guy that still uses the same North Face jacket that I got from warranty back in '97. I let my employers spend the bucks on the pricey uniforms w/ all the techy fabrics and features.

Just googled it (TLT 5)...nope wouldn't pay a grand for a ski boot either. I'm still on '96 Scarpa Denalis and '00 Garmont Ener-G's...find something that fits and stick with it! When I bought those boots though, it sure felt like I paid a grand

Maybe they're just recognizing that more often than not, people use Arc'teryx gear to walk from their car to Starbucks? 1k is ridiculous, however.
That being said, Arc'teryx does make some really nice product, regardless of how "core" they are. Many of their innovations and designs become trends followed by the smaller and more "core" companies. Waterproof zips, anyone?
Oh, and the tlt5 boots are fantastic. They feel like Mountain sneakers that climb better than plastic mountaineering boots and ski better than just about any light touring boot out there. I'm thoroughly convinced that in the next five years, it'll either be burly overlap boots for the rad-bro freeriders or super light, functional boots like the TLT5 for the average ski tourer. Anything in-between I'm willing to bet will go the way of the rear entry boot.

so they still ski like crap. got it.
my last ski pants cost $50, are waterproof and have been going strong for 2 years, but unfortunately they dont scream "I have a ton of disposable income". I'm still jealous of the guys at baker skiing in fishing gear, that's core!

The price was ridiculous back then - I think $450 - but I didn't pay retail. Consider that I wore this coat hard for 5 years, gave it to my son who wore it hard for 6 years, took it back last year and sewed back some of the glued hems that had come apart, put a heavy coat of DWR on it, and it's fine. Can't really think of another piece of gear that's stood the test of time with more grace.

I'm not as much of a dirtbag as I used to be but I still can't afford the Dead Bird shit. I'd rather spend my coin on hardware and pick up outerwear on sales or slightly used or just continue to rock the neon Columbia pullover my mom bought for me in 1992.

Hmmmm, not sure I've been called a poser before, I prefer a functionally fit fashionista. You could have found me posing in Arc'Teryx jackets and pants for the last 10 years. Of course, to do so you would need the skills to catch me on the up and to hang with me on the down since most of my poses are in motion.
