Minimal driving and need for turns meant Vesper. As I was gearing up, this guy pulls in behind me commenting that hiking high up the mountain with skis seems like a stupid thing to do -- then he pulls out his pack with skis. Nice to meet you Oyvind. Nice to have someone to share 4,000 feet of stupidity and 800' of glory in September sun surrounded by a sea of peaks.
Solid snow from about 5,200 to the bench at 6,000. A bit cuppy but softened by 1:30, fun enough for a couple runs. Should still be there next weekend for October turns. Save a little weight and don't bring your skins for 800'.

That was one of the choices on the list - instead I went up to Ruth Mt., while a little bit more skiing the snow wasn't as soft and the drive and trail longer. Looks like it's hanging in there enough for an October outing - looks fun. Thanks for report.
