Good day in some bowl on the back side of Mazama Ridge.

Saw a pair of wolves in a field near northwest Trek. Didn't know there were any around here. Perhaps they escaped.

Arrived at the gate at 9:55 and it was OPEN. Saw my brother, Randy (of TAY), in the parking lot on Mt Rainier Ski patrol.  Andreas, Kasi and I started off with some good turns off the road down to the meadow below Mazama ridge. Noticed some crust beneath powder on the first turn but after that AWESOME. Then we headed up for the back bowl and met up with my brother again. Made some 5 runs on various aspects. Only slighted wind affected. Powder on crust going over the ridge and then just awesome powder...well good powder. Best runs were on the south facing slopes.

Most of the day was overcast, but then sun in the afternoon. Saw a huge avalanche come down the Nisqually Ice fall.

Even better turns from Mazama ridge back to the road.
It was fun to run it you and the snow in the "Back Bowl" was pretty sweet after the second turn.   I had one of my finest runs ever! ;D
