After reading Wolf's August 12th post of Fryingpan, I found myself heading up the Wonderland trail in search of a run with minimal suncups. I must say this trip exceeded all of my expectations and then some. The Fryingpan glacier is still nearly crevasse free (except near the top) and the snow was soft and smooth. There was zero wind on the glacier and dead silent.
We managed to descend the Goat Cirque chutes and, except for a short and rather intense carry near the cliff band, we were able to ride down the drainage to about 5600 ft. We got in over 2500 vertical....when at the beginning of the day I was expecting no more that 1000 or so. What an amazing trip...I will be back.
On a side note: My friends AT&T phone had full bars on the Glacier and in the valley.
