January 9, 2005, Paradise

The gang consisted of Jeanette, Ron, Stefan, Darryl and myself. Headed out towards the Tatoosh  to check on some new lines Ron and Stefan had scoped out last summer. While the cover is good out there and getting better it was not quite enough for the slopes we had in mind. A large part of the fun in the bc is exploring new areas and that's what we ended up doing. Made our way up to an open area a little east of Castle. All the way up, try as we might, nothing moved. Dug a pit at the side of a very enticing 35 degree clearing. Found about 30 inches of consistant unconsolidated on top of the mid December rain crust. The block did shear surprisingly at a 2, on a layer of hoar about 8 inches down. This info kept us in the trees for our descent.
