My original plan was to beat the locals to the Elk Mountain Chutes before the Obstruction Point Road opens, but I blew that off to be sure I could get back to meet the family for the last Harry Potter flick.
I got some August turns in with only an hour approach on the Switchback Trail. The North Bowl, as Gary called it, had 5-600' of suncups. Snow was sluffy-smooth on the steep starts, then pretty bumpy, then easier carving on the lower parts. Some peek-a-boo mists, and temps were super mild:
t-shirt all day, never cold and only sweaty in the usual spots (top of the booting, not under my hat).
1500' approach + (3 x 600' runs) = 3300 v.f. with 1800 of turns = 54.5% Joy-o-Meter, right?
Is that McCartney Peak out there south of Ob. Point? Still plenty of snow on it.
