Cold Springs access?
« on: 07/07/11, 02:28 PM »

I am planning on a trip down to Adams this weekend and was wondering how much of a hike on the road it still is to get to the trail? And how is the road looking? I would like to take my 2 rear wheel drive car that is mainly for the highways, so i need to know if it is passable in a car like that.

~2.5 last I checked.  Car should be fine, probably easier to find a parking spot.  Take a come along and a chainsaw if you are feeling adventurous.

We were there on the 4th and I doubt its changed much. Lots of downed timber in addition to snow blockage. 2 miles form the normal trailhead and about 600vf below.

About 100 yds of drifts at 2.5 miles before Cold Springs.  After that road is mostly bare till just before last hairpin up to CS. Sneakers would have been nice, or a mtn bike.  Plenty of trees though over the road though. Continuous snow snow up from CS, 7/6/11.

when does the climbers pass go into effect?

From the USFS page:

Climbing Update for 07/03/2011

FEE SEASON IS NOW IN EFFECT FOR MT. ADAMS

A Cascades Volcano Pass is required to climb Mt. Adams from June 1 to September 30.
