- I dont know what it is about doin' turns on patches. This patch (larger than avg., due to a big winter) is at 8,000 ft. The summit is 8,200, and you drive up to a gentle saddle below the summit radio towers. A short 10 minute walk gets you to the top of the patch. The walk down was through about 8 different types of flowers! I'm sure the big winter helped for the flowers. The run was about 300 vert. (flat and dirty at the top, & steep and firm-cupped on the bottom). A nice side shot of running water. We did a couple laps.
The best part was the commanding views, where we parked - with views of Donner summit, Squaw/ Alpine down to the Tahoe crest by Homewood. If there wasn't H pressure haze, we probably could have had a glimpse of Lassen. 'A patch is better than nothin' (I'll try to post some pics in a couple wks)
