July 4, 2011, Tamarack Peak

Gotta love the 10 min drive to Mt Rose pass from Peter's house, and there was still enough snow to skin all but 100 yds of the ridge to Tamarack Peak. Big suncups are forming tho. We took a short run down the bowl north of hourglass, quite bumpy so we decided to head back home. We heard sledheads celebrating their first fourth of July on the machines perhaps. Half a dozen hikers including a 76 yr old and half a dozen skiers were enjoying the ridge with us. Turns out the best skiing was a 500' smooth stretch protected from wind and sun by a rock buttress that took us right to the highway a couple hundred feet below the pass.
