We had a great solitary camp just below the pass, on Fourth of July weekend!?  The plan was for a leisurely half day of up and down corn skiing, but from the peaklet just south of the pass Eric and I were attracted by a nice bowl under Leavitt Peak, and a good looking gully off the summit. Jim chose to call the peak "leave it" and enjoyed a southeast facing butter run and perfect corn on the north slope, and then a restful, cool afternoon at camp.

Eric and I found 4" sloppy slush leftover from Tuesday's surprising low freezing level storm. The views from the summit were superb, however, and the long traverse over and back was good exercise.  The temperature at the 9600' pass was 85 degrees on our return at 430pm!

Later I heard it was 101 today in Carson City, luckily we are sleeping at 9000'+.  Dare I say I am missing Seattle and Cascade weather?
