Suz, Balu, & L2 were surprised to see so many people in the parking lot at 9am on New Year's Day.
It turned out to be well worth the pain of the early rising.
The temp was around 30, the snow light, and a mix of blue sky and dark clouds on the horizon.  The sun and clouds held each other in a perfect mix keeping visability excellent yet temps cool.  The northern and western aspects of Ptarmigan Ridge and Table Mountain were wonderful while the southern and eastern aspects had some crusty and variable spots probably left over from the rain in December.
Anyway, there is a lot of nice powder out there and with the visability good, seemingly endless opportunities for a fabulous New Year!
Jan 2,

hit the Baker area and skiied a couple of laps underneath Table Mountain, north facing aspect.  Amazing how tracked up the area was.  The snow boarders seemed to be systematically working on the steepest drop-ins remaining.
Didn't cut trail all day, the snow that had been packed was noisy styra-snow.

Beautiful blue bird day, any uncut sections you could find made for nice turns.
It looked like in order to get your own uncut section of hillside, you needed to hike further out onto the ptarmigan ridge.
